Paper straws require the use of paper to make them. They also require the use of a sealing material, historically a wax based sealer, but some new types use plastics or other polymers to seal them. They are definitely better than the use of plastic straws. The simplest way to solve the problem is to not use straws, or purchase your own reusable metallic or glass straw.
